Grady County's impressive $2.5 million courthouse, completed in 1985, houses the commission form of government for Grady County.

A Mayor/Council form of city government serves Cairo which was incorporated in 1870 and was designated as the county seat when Grady County was formed in 1906. Grady County was 1 of 8 new counties created that year in the state of Georgia. Whigham, incorporated in 1888, also provides a mayor and council as the form of government for its community.
